Top Tips For Burning Your Candles

MY TOP THREE TIPS ON HOW TO GET THE MOST FROM YOUR CANDLES WHILST BURNING THEM

WHEN I’M CHATTING TO PEOPLE AT MY ARTISAN FAIRS AND MAKERS MARKETS I OFTEN MENTION MY TIPS FOR ENSURING THAT THEY GET THE MOST FROM MY CANDLES WHEN THEY GET THEM HOME.  I’VE LEARNED THAT WHAT IS OBVIOUS TO ME AS A CANDLE MAKER IS NOT NECESSARILY OBVIOUS TO OTHERS.  WITH THAT IN MIND, HERE ARE MY TOP THREE TIPS TO ENSURE THAT YOU OBTAIN MAXIMUM BURN TIME AND ENJOYMENT FROM YOUR BEAUTIFULLY FRAGRANCED CANDLES

BURN YOUR CANDLE FOR LONG ENOUGH

Candles are an absolute treat and you want to make them last for as long as possible but by blowing them out too soon you might actually be shortening their life. Candle tunnelling leaves walls of wax that can stifle the candle and can even drown the wick completely. Always light your candles for between 2-4 hours at a time or until you have a full pool of melted wax.

TRIM THE WICK BETWEEN BURNS

I can’t stress enough that wick trimming is absolutely paramount. If the wick is too long the flame will be larger than it should be. This means that it will burn through the wax more quickly and may smoke.  Always trim your wick to 5mm each time you light your candles.

DON’T BURN YOUR CANDLES IN A DRAUGHT

They may be invisible, but draughts can cause real problems when you are burning your candles. If you notice your flame blowing to one side or that you’re left with wax on one side of your jar it may be that your candle was in a draught. Keep a close eye on them and if you spot the flame being blown around, extinguish the candle and move it to alternative spot.

Candle care can prolong the life of your candles and result in a safer, cleaner burn. Always follow the instructions included with my candles and if you have any questions please contact me, I’m always happy to help.
